Mom... What happened to my swingset? Traditional Cache
pinksweatshirt: Well, after about 7 good years, it seems like this area got cleaned up a bit which included removal of the namesake swingset!! As I have been unable to check on this cache, I feel it is time to archive it so as not to waste anybody's time looking for something that may not even be there anymore!! It is still a really cool area - so I would recommend hiking the trail just to do it!! [:)]!! Thanks everyone!!

On September 17, 2004, hurricane Ivan pummeled Pittsburgh. Chartiers Creek flooded its banks and caused much devestation. If you look up in the tree across from the cache site, you'll see evidence of how high the creek rose that day!
You are looking for a larger peanut container tucked away along a trail at the back of Thonburg Park. The trail runs along the bank of Chartiers Creek. This area used to be a golf course but is now a park which attracts dog owners because of it's off leash policy.
PLEASE BE ADVISED: there is a new restriction that prohibits dogs (or any pets) in the park on Wednesdays and Sundays.
This is such a great trail! It continues beyond the cache site and I would HIGHLY recommend walking about another .16mi to see an old stone railroad tressel tunnel - it has 1904 on top! I have included this as a waypoint. Further still, the trail winds all the way to the busway bridge at Carnegie. There are some cool railroad tie bridges to cross and other surprises along the way. This full trip will be about a mile and a quarter from the parking lot - 2.5 miles round trip. Well worth the hike!
The Japanese knotweed grows thick here and may make the final find a little more challenging. The terrain is mostly flat but there are some muddy spots, some makeshift bridges to cross and some steep dropoffs into the creek - hence the 3 star terrain.
At no time is it necessary to get near or cross the railroad tracks! STAY OFF THE TRACKS!
