Born Bartholomew Roberts (AKA: Black Bart) born in May of 1862 was one of the most successful pirates of the ‘Golden Age of Piracy’, even more so than Blackbeard. Black Bart was a Welsh Pirate who plundered the American and West African shores in the early 1700’s. It is said that he plundered well over 400 ships. In 1722 he engaged the vessel HMS Swallow commanded by Captain Chaloner Ogle. There were two confrontations, (a few days apart) on the second confrontation it is said a lot of Black Bart’s crew were drunk and mistook the swallow for another ship. This was the downfall of Black Bart. It is said Captain Ogle ended up with some of it, and some by a Captain Hill of the vessel called the Neptune. The day he was defeated (2-22-1722) is known as The Blackest Day. This signifies the end of The Golden Age of Piracy. Enjoy!...Darksky1
