As with all the others, this one needs the application of your trusty 9 volt battery to open it. Pretty simple action, but needs the right touch. ( Apply battery to terminals and push, hear faint click, then quick release…) Please take care when replacing the logbook so it doesn't jam the mechanism.
And if it doesn't work it's either all clogged up with rust and ants, or misplaced logbook, or your battery is flat. This one really prefers a good strong new battery...

A WORD OF WARNING ABOUT 9 VOLT BATTERIES!: Don't allow the terminals to come into contact with metallic objects! This will short circuit the battery and flatten it. It will also create a fair amount of heat. So putting your battery in the glovebox or your pocket with things like keys or loose change is not a good idea.
Some manufacturers sell them with a little plastic 'keeper' to protect the terminals. Keep the keeper! Or put some tape over the terminals or pop the battery in a plastic bag. Then you will be safe and can continue logging BYOBs!
IMPORTANT!: I've had a request from the Shire to tell all geocachers NOT TO DRIVE VEHICLES ON THE TRAIL! If this persists I will have to remove all the BYOB caches. Please don't be the idiot who kills these popular caches!
