This park (a former landfill) hosts the annual Lyon Township Kite Festival in the late fall/early summer. This year's event will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M Last year's event featured free admission, parking and kite kits for all children to decorate and fly. Food concessions are on site along with other events such as face painting and inflatables. The fire department has been there to spray a +50' high plume of water which kids (and adults) can run through. Of course you can always just sit back and enjoy the exciting atmosphere and there are always professional kite fliers showing off their skills and giving tips to amateurs.
We have visited the festival the last few years and enjoying bringing our kites up here to fly during the summer. This plateau is a great location to fly kites as you are already at a decent altitude and there are no trees to affect the wind.
