Geocache Description:

As the name might suggest, the cache is on top of Mescal Mountain that is adjacent to the southern boundary of the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness.

Hike the Long Canyon Trail 0.6 miles to a gap in the fence delineating the edge of the wilderness. Turn left and staying outside of the fence head toward Mescal Mountain. At 1.0 mile you will reach the foot of a butte, where the trail climbs. Continue on to the saddle and turn left. You will pass the Druid sacrificial site and following the trail go to the waypoint listed to gain the top of Mescal. The container is a small Geocaching.com plastic container containing besides a log and two pencils a brass clock, a hair broach, a wooden game and a necklace inside a white presentation box. The elevation is 5037'.

The views from Mescal are fabulous. One can see, above Airport Mesa in the distance to the SE, from left to right, Lee Mountain, Courthouse Butte, Bell Rock, The Transept and Cathedral Rock. Nearby Seven Canyons Golf Course, Capital Butte, Doe Mountain, The Cockscomb and the hoodoo at Enchantment Resort are all readily viewable. To the north are the mountains of Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness that constitute the edge of the Mogollon Rim on the very edge of the Colorado Plateau.
