White Birches Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

cwgray: Cleanup is going to take a long time, as the salvageable timber is being harvested, then the trail system rebuilt. Once the area opens, we can plan a new set of caches.

Geocache Description:

A moderate walk and hiking and mountain bike trails on the Stowe Town Loop trails.

I have only recently learned of the Stowe town trails in the 60-acre Macutchan Forest. Recently, the Stowe Land Trust has been awarded a grant towards developing a trail system here, as well as purchasing the adjacent 260-acre Cady Hill Forest. Meanwhile, the Stowe Mountain Bike Club has been hard at work developing the 11 miles of trails in these woods.

I explored the trail system a bit today and kept going up the hill until I found an attractive area with some nice white birches, perfect for hiding a cache. The trail system keeps going, and there's plenty of room for more caches out there. Currently there's no official map of the trail system, but one is in progress and will be available by this summer.

Park behind the "RIDE" shop off of Mountain Road, at N 44°28.186 W 072°41.335 and begin your walk or ride at the trail info kiosk. It looks like there are several choices for trails which will lead you to this cache and back to your car. Have fun exploring!
