An anchor stone representing the anchorage of Tauranga Moana sits in the middle of this circular courtyard. The surrounding pouwhenua (carved posts) represent the navigators who sailed waka (Takitimu, Tokomaru, Tainui, Mataatua, Te Arawa, Aotea and Kurahaupo) to Aotearoa (New Zealand) from Polynesia around 1350AD.
The site is also the original landing place of the Takitimu canoe. Please use the suggested parking area (Mission Cemetery car park), it's an easy 80m walk to the cache from there.
