No need to wander into the woods for this cache. Should be a quick grab.
This cache is located in the Virginia Eastern Shore Wildlife Refuge, a wonderful area that is a must for bird watchers.
This cache is located at the old Fort John Custis. The structure you see is a bunker that used to house 16 inch guns used to protect the naval bases and shipyards located in the Hampton Roads area. There were about 800 soldiers stationed to defend the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay.
The Wildlife Refuge has recently located one of the big 16 inch guns which will be shipped to the area in early 2012.
Near the cache you will see some stairs. These will take you to the highest elevation in Northhampton County and a view that is well worth the walk!!
This cache was placed with special permission and direction from VA NWR. please obey all park rules and regulations while you enjoy your visit.
