Take a Hike: Bruin Hill Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is one in a series of caches entitled "Take a Hike" that was placed by The Lynch Three between 2011-2012. There are no puzzles, no hard multi's, or no challenging hides in this series; instead, what they share in common is a good hike in the woods, enjoyable in any season.
The Lynch Three has been retired from caching for a while now, so I adopted some of this series so that others could have the same experience of taking a great hike like I once did!
From March, 2012 to December, 2016, the cache was located on the Bruin Hill Woods Road, but I moved it with the former CO's permission. The new cache spot will take you up the actual Bruin Hill via a Greenbelt trail, hence the high terrain rating. Unfortunately the summit isn't very scenic; trees will block your views of any skyline.
Enjoy your hike!
(The Lynch Three, 2012): In plotting my "Take a Hike" caches I've been intrigued by the 276' high Bruin Hill in North Andover. In two exploratory hikes I discovered a wide trail in the area that made for a nice stroll in the woods. I did not place the cache on the actual summit of Bruin Hill for two reasons: 1) I could not find an actual trail to the top; and 2) as a result, the .16 mile bushwhack, while easy, culminated in no views but many, many ticks. Thus the final cache is directly off the clear, easy-to-follow trail; do not hike up the power lines---- instead, go directly right before the very first poles and you'll see the trail that enters the woods. Please do not approach this from the other end, for it dead-ends in private property. Enjoy your hike!
