Banana Slug - An Island Spirit Legacy.

The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down past the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.

All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, unless otherwise noted. There is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation.

Banana Slug

Named after it's yellow skin or yellow and brown spotted skin but also ranging into greens, browns and blacks, the Pacific Banana Slug is the second largest slug growing up to an amazing 9 1/2 inches long! No need to worry though, they only move about 6 1/2 inches per minute, or 1/10th a kilometre per hour. And if you do get up close and personal, you'll notice two sets of tenticles, the shorter lower ones are for detecting chemcials that tell them about their surroundings, the second longer tenticles are called "eyestalks" and if you watch them, you'll see them watching you.
