Geocache Description:

The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down past the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.

All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, unless otherwise noted. There is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation.

Mosquito

Mosquitos...those pesky little critters that buzz around you trying to syphon off some of your blood. They've been around for roughly 30 million years, figuring out the best way to feed off people and animals. Starting out as larvae that survive in standing water whether it is a pond, old tire or rain barrel, if it is standing water, mosquito larvae and pupae can can grow. Many fish and aquatic insects eat the larvae and pupae and it only takes about 7 days for them go through the larvae and pupae stages, and once an adult, females can live several weeks if they have a source of sugar, but males only live about a week. Once grown, bats, birds and spiders eat adult mosquitos. It is only female mosquitos that drink blood which is needed to produce eggs. Mosquitos can sense carbon dioxide and lactic acid up to 100 feet away telling them exactly where a nice meal may be waiting for them.
