Turkey Vulture - An Island Spirit Legacy.

The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down past the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.

All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, unless otherwise noted. There is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation.

Turkey Vulture

Turkey Vultures are fairly common on Vancouver Island. They are not strong fliers and usually soar on warm wind currents in a similar manner to eagles. They prefer to stay on Vancouver Island, partially due to the warm air currents here, but also because it is difficult for them to fly over the Straight of Juan De Fuca due to the changes in the temperature of the air currents once they leave the Island. Once they do decide to cross the Straight, they will gather together in a flock and fly in a group known as a “kettle.”
