A quick park and grab under the new Audubon Bridge that spans the Mississippi River. DO NOT stop on the bridge, you will not find the cache there. You must be on the river road below to retrieve the cache! Drive-by muggles are ever present at this location. Plenty of shoulder to pull off on.
This cache placement is located along the Cajun II Road (aka River Road, aka Hwy 981) that underpasses the new Audubon Bridge. The John James Audubon Bridge was opened in May of 2011. It is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the Western Hemisphere, with a 1,583’ main span. Located in south-central Louisiana, it connects West Feliciana Parish with Pointe Coupee Parish, and is the only bridge crossing the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and Natchez, Mississippi. The bridge's construction began in 2006 and continued until its opening in May 2011 when high water levels forced the closure of the St. Francisville Ferry sooner than expected. The total cost of the project was roughly $409 million dollars.
