Geocache Description:

Geocentrophiles take note. It's Official! Camp Verde is the official Geographic Center of Arizona. After one year, the monument is still not finished, but we are still the geocenter!

The Arizona Professional Land Surveyors (APLS) have placed an official brass APLS marker here in Rezzonico Park designating Camp Verde to be the community closest to the geographic center of Arizona.

The monument is still under construction, but will include informational plaques. Gov. Jan Brewer declared Sunday, April 1, 2012 as Geographic Celebration of Arizona Day.

As submitted to the governor, the proclamation was to have been called Geographic Center of Arizona Day. For some reason (maybe politics?)the name was changed. But it really doesn't matter. April 1 was the day on which residents of Camp Verde could begin asserting their bragging rights as to being the community closest to the center of Arizona. The designation was based on the fact that Camp Verde's town hall is closer to the actual center than any other incorporated community's town hall.

The actual center is located in a remote area about 20 miles away at the confluence of the Verde River and East Verde River at N34 16.311 W111 39.368
