This is my first cache. This is in the edge of a wooded area in the popular walk area of Clennon valley.
This is a micro/nano cache with log only because there isn’t room for anything else. Bring you own pen and a paperclip may help to extract the log book.
According to rumour is believed that the Devil lives in Devon, hence the many legends. This may be because the veil between the two worlds in thinnest here. From time to time perhaps he has breached the barrier and walked in Devon. There can be other supernatural presences where the veil is thinnest and easiest for these presences to breach.
Don't fear, most beings of the other magical world are not as sinister but they are different from ourselves. Examples are fairies, elves, sprites and the most mischievous practical jokers – Goblins!
Goblins, inhabit Devon and in particular Torbay, and more specifically this site. They make their homes in and under trees. Sometimes there are clear signs of this. They farm slugs and snails. Remember this!
Goblins also give false clues and set up decoys though. They also are master of disguising things.
The Goblin’s Quest (Optional and hard):-
This is an optional aspect of Goblin’ Lair Cache. It is not a geocache because the GPS signal there is virtually non-existent and very erratic and inaccurate.
Long ago when this Goblin was young and magic leaked though the veil more easily, he set home at this spot for a reason. According to Goblin Legends there is a place in these woods, fairly near here where there is a wide pipe along on the ground. Towards one end of this pipe is a small cave nearby on a crag which is a dragon’s lair. To enter safely you will need to borrow a jar of fly agaric toadstools or stewed bat to protect you from the dragon. The dragon will also accept goblin jars of jam or pickles too. Warning: the route is hard (terrain) and unsuitable for children and you need to be agile.
The Goblin never found this cave, because although near in a straight line, the route to it is not so easy, and now he has become too old and achy to continue. His researches when younger, found ancient records that in the cave is a magic wooden box (maybe disguised) in which there are collectables, sometime trackables and most important magic rune stones which will bring the bearer exceptional lifelong good luck. Legand says these are the strongest good luck charms ever! However, there is one condition. You must pay the dragon! Failure to pay the dragon for every rune stone you take brings a lifetime of bad luck!
The only currency the dragon accepts is Goblin Jars of fly agaric toadstools or jars of stewed bat, though when they are scarce, he also accepts goblin jars of pickles. They must be placed in the box in place of the rune stone (limit one per person if you can find that many jars). Jars may be obtained from the Goblin, but first you must find his house which is near Goblins Lair geocache. Clue:- At his house leave no stone unturned when looking for them. Also he has to collect them fresh so if you visit his house and none are there, probably someone else has taken them recently and you will have to wait until he has collected more then visit again.
There is a log book in the dragon’s cave which you may sign if you wish, but this is not an official geocache due to poor GPS signal. Snails my give additional clues.
