Geocache Description:

O. Winston Link was already a successful New York photographer.
From childhood he had a fascination with steam locomotives.
One day when he was on an assignment for an advertising agency in Virginia he visited Waynesboro on the Norfolk and Western Railway and obtained permission to have a look around the premises.
He observed that there, there remained the aspects of railways that were rapidly vanishing elsewhere.
The sounds smells and sights he experienced that evening convinced him that the historic rituals of the railway had to be committed to photographic paper before they disappeared forever.
He believed he could do the job best by shooting at night, when he could control the lighting. The darkness seemed symbolic of the glamour and romance associated with railroading.
His would be a diet of steam and steel beneath the stars.
