Bärenfluh
Die Bärenfluh bei Vitznau ist zeitweise ein gefährlicher Ort! Hier ereignen sich immer wieder kleinere und grössere Felsstürze. Der letzte grosse Felssturz ereignete sich in der Nacht vom 18./19. März 2003. Unerwartet stürzen 300 Kubikmeter Fels nach unten in Richtung See. Glücklicherweise blieb der grösste Teil der Felsmasse im Schutzwald und den Fangnetzen hängen. Doch ein grosser, rund 30 Tonnen schwerer Block durchschlug die Fangnetze und kam auf der Strasse zu liegen. Auch zwei kleine Blöcke in der Grösse eines Kleinwagens und mit je ca. 6 Tonnen Gewicht schlugen Krater in die Strasse. In der darauf folgenden Sperrzeit wurde das Abrissgebiet gesäubert und die Fangnetze erneuert und verstärkt.
Doch die Bärenfluh hat mehr zu bieten als Bergstürze. Das Wald- und Felsufer am See ist die Heimat vieler tauchender Wasservögel und soll auch Wandermuscheln beherbergen. Der Name Bärenfluh stammt übrigens von einer Höhle, in der man 1913 Knochen eines Höhlenbären fand. Ausserdem gibt es hier eine tolle Aussichtskanzel mit Blick über den Vierwaldstättersee und Vitznau.

Bärenfluh ("bear cliff")
The Bärenfluh near Vitznau is sometimes a dangerous place! From time to time large and small rocks fall down. The last bigger rockslide occurred on the night of 18.-19. March 2003. Unexpectedly, 300 cubic meters of rock falls down towards the lake. Fortunately most of the rocks are stopped into the forest or the safety nets. But a large 30 tons block smashed through the nets and came to stop on the road. Also two small blocks in the size of a small car and with about 6 tons of weight bang a crater in the road. In the following time the road was closed and the instable area above the mountain was cleaned and all the nets renewed and strengthened.
But the Bärenfluh has more to offer then rock falls. The forest and rocky shores at the lake is home of many diving water birds and also of zebra mussels. The name Bärenfluh the say, comes from a cave, into they found 1913 bones of a cave bear. Here it also has a wonderful viewing platform overlooking Lake of Lucerne and Vitznau.
