Geocache Description:

Laporte Preserve

Trail map: (visit link)

The Laport Property offers an easy loop trail through small meadows and a young wooded area.

The Laport Reserve was named after former owner Edmund Laport. A pioneer in radio waves communication, he spent five months in 1928 building radio stations for the Chinese government. He became chief engineer for Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in 1939 and then held the same title in 1944 for RCA International. He was named Corporate Director of Communication Engineering for the Princeton Area in 1954. He purchased the reserve property around the same time, and retired there in 1966.

He practiced organic gardening techniques and kept much of the fields in native pasture. Demonstrating his conservation efforts, Laport served as president of the South Branch Watershed Association in 1971, and chairman of the East Amwell Planning Board in 1975. He died in 1983, and was succeeded by his wife, Gertrude, until 1991. Their final act was to deed their land as a reserve for wildlife.

Cache is in obvious location, but remember the only requirement to claim a find is to sign the log, logging online is optional a mazingly
