The Metal (Railway) Bridge was erected in 1885 as part of the Farranfore to Renard railway line. It was the most westerly railway line in Europe until it was closed in 1960. If this line was in operation today, it would provide a great tourist resource.
Spanning the River Laune, it provides spectacular views. These include Killorglin Bridge, with the Mc Gillycuddy Reeks mountains in the backround. There are also beautiful views down river. Today the bridge is part of a walkway, mostly used by locals.
This cache is part of my Kerry County bridge series, so please take your photo here and post it, if you wish.
Note: While this is a safe walkway, it is a high bridge and children should be accompanied by an adult.
