The event will take place during Norfolk's Earth Day Celebration at Johnson's Park on Saturday, April 21. The Earth Day Celebration is from 1-4 pm, and the Geocaching 101 Class will begin at 2:00 pm. There is no charge for any of the activities. Look for us at the 94 Rock booth, where they have graciously offered to share their space, tables, and internet access.
The class will be conducted by local Geocachers GeoJudt, BBM&J, p.boy, and perhaps a few others. Whether you are new to the sport or a caching veteran, everyone is welcome to attend. There are a couple of permanent geocaches within walking distance of the class, and there are plans for a few temporary caches for you to test your skills. The park has mostly flat grassy areas, but should allow access by most wheelchairs.
What to bring along to the class:
Everyone: pen & paper for notes and a collapsible chair for sitting
Newbies: if you have a GPS receiver and/or smartphone, please bring them as well as questions you would like answered
Caching Veterans: please bring your experience & stories, GPS receiver(s), and trackables for sharing/discovering
If you already have a Geocaching.com account, please be sure to log a "Will Attend" so we have an idea of how many to expect!
**In case of inclement weather, the class will be conducted at the Norfolk Visitors Bureau office. An update will be sent out to reflect the change.**
