Dedicated to the Deaf Community and those who are friends. This is a 2 just because it can get muddy.
This Cache is dedicated to the Deaf Community, one I’m enjoying entering into. I’m a student at Wright State University, and as a foreign language I chose American Sign Language (ASL). As a project due for class I thought I would introduce my two passions of American Sign Language and GeoCaching. With that being said, I give you the Dummy Hoy Cache.
Dummy Hoy (1862-1961), born William Hoy, was from Houcktown, Ohio . At age 3 he survived meningitis with the loss of hearing. After graduating as Valedictorian from the Ohio State School for Deaf, Dummy played baseball and was recognized for his athletic ability and soon found himself playing for teams such as the Wisconsin, Washington Nationals, and onto the Cincinnati Reds in 1893. Ending his superb and record setting career in 1903, (see stats and accomplishments at www.dummyhoy.com ), Dummy is credited with having helped establish signaling in baseball, but not solely responsible, that would be by Cy Rigler. Never-the-less, Dummy Hoy is an inspiration to both the hearing and the Deaf communities. So this cache is for Dummy, and since the Deaf Community communicates with hands and facial expressions and those who don’t know ASL use their hands as signals and signs this cache is for the signs.. this cache would like to contain anything that can relate to the Deaf Community by communication. Whether it be symbols, or letters, ASL signs and what not.
Enjoy.
