Dodgeville Slag Furnance
This cache is located near the Dodgeville Slag Furnance. The furnance was constructed in 1876 by Thomas Carkeek and Samuel Cornelius. The company of Bennett, Hoskins and George provided the funding for the construction. This company would buy slag from the area furnaces and then re-melt the slag to extract more lead ore from the slag. This a a truly unique piece of history. The cache is not located on the furnance, but rather nearby.
