Geocache Description:

While out hiding eggs, baskets and treats all over the world, the Easter Bunny gets pretty hungry! So what does the Easter Bunny eat to sustain himself on his adventures? Trail mix? Carrots? Lettuce? Nope, he eats Magical Pickled Easter Eggs! For centuries pickling has been a popular way to preserve food throughout many cultures, and the Easter Bunny is no eggception!

For the rest of us the day after Easter we find ourselves left with dozens of beautifully decorated hard boiled eggs (especially if we have children). Figuring out what to do with them besides making egg salad is always a chore. Here is a recipe for pickled Easter eggs to help you use up your eggs. Once you figure out the coordinates keep an eye out for the Easter Bunny!

Magical Pickled Easter Eggs
Prep: 20 min. + chilling

Ingredients:
2 cups cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
12 hard boiled eggs
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 cup sugar

2 medium onions, thinly sliced
6 whole cloves
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon celery seed
1 tablespoon mustard seed

Ingredient Prep:
This is a special Easter recipe. Special preparation of the ingredients is required to help the Easter Bunny preserve his magic. Please do not skip this step or the Easter Bunny may not make it to this location in stealth mode.
Step 1 – Vinegar prep. Take the 2 cups of vinegar and place in a shaker container. Shake the vinegar 2.5 times.
Step 2 – Add the ½ cup water and shake vigorously another 8 times.
Step 3 – Take the 12 eggs and set 3 aside. Peel the remainder to use in the recipe. With the three unpeeled eggs, go outside and toss one straight up high into the air while shouting, “Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids!” then let the egg splat on the ground. Do not clean it up. Take another egg, peel it and sprinkle the crumbled shells in your flower garden, vegetable garden or grass as fertilizer. Take the third egg, peel it and then smush it in your hand and smear the egg on your face like war paint while chanting, “I’ll get you wascally wabbit !”
Step 4 – Go back inside. Add the 2 tablespoons of mustard to the shaker with the water and vinegar. Do not shake it, but holding the container tightly, spin around 5 additional spins.
Step 5 – Add 1 cup of sugar, then bow 5 times to the North.
Take a break. Wash your face.

Step 6 – While facing west, take the 2 sliced onions and place in a wide bowl. Pick up all the onions and with both hands toss them in the air while jumping up and down like a bunny making sure to not spill any of the onions. Do this 2 times.
Step 7 – Prepare the cloves. Put the cloves in a wicker basket first, gently shake and then try and find them again. Put the 6 cloves into the shaker with the liquids. If you really like cloves, you can add up to 3 more without affecting the magical qualities.
Step 8 – Salt. Add the 1 tablespoon of salt to the shaker. If you spill even one grain it is bad luck and will have to toss salt over your shoulder 5 times.
Step 9 – Celery Seed. Seeing as celery seed comes from celery which the Easter Bunny eats anyway, there is no need to do anything to the 1 tablespoon of celery seed besides add it to the shaker mixture.
Step 10 – Mustard Seeds. Mustard seeds can be tricky little buggers – they roll all over the place and onto the floor if not careful. Measure 1 tablespoon of mustard seeds and count them 2 times to make sure you haven’t lost any. Add them to the mixture.

Once you have completed the ingredient prep, you will have made them magical, thereby helping the Easter Bunny! You are now ready to continue with the recipe.

Directions:
In a large saucepan, combine everything but the eggs and onions. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Cool completely. Place onions and eggs in a large jar; add enough vinegar mixture to completely cover. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight. Use a clean spoon each time you remove eggs for serving. The eggs can be refrigerated for up to 1 week.
