El poble s’enfila en un tossal a la ribera del riu Sió, a 336 m d’altitud. La configuració dels carrers i la constant presència de muralles ens indiquen la importància que va tenir antigament. La bonica vista que hi ha des del poble, reforçada pels edificis de l’església i el castell crida l’atenció i convida a fer-hi una visita. Fou un poble castral, regit pel castell. La població es formà amb una planta arrodonida. Actualment els carrers rodegen el castell, l’església i la plaça amb lleugers pendents i traçats en ziga-zaga per salvar el desnivell fins al riu.
El poble ha anat creixent al voltant del nucli primitiu. La major part de la població es dedica a l’agricultura, amb conreus de secà i regadiu - regats pel canal d’Urgell - i a la ramaderia porcina i ovina. Al sector forestal hi ha alzines i roures.

The town climbs a hill next to the river Sió, to 336 m. The configuration of streets and the constant presence of walls indicate the importance that was formerly. The beautiful view of the village, reinforced by the buildings of the church and the castle attracts attention and invites you to visit it. Was a town governed by the castle. The population was formed with a rounded plant. Today the streets surrounding the castle, the church and the square with slight slopes and paths zigzag up the slope to save the river.
The town has grown around the original nucleus. Most of the population engaged in agriculture, irrigation and dryland crops - irrigated by the Canal d'Urgell - swine and cattle and sheep. Forestry are oaks.
