Northfield Park was opened in 1931 and is the oldest of Blaby's Parks. It is situated on Leicester Road by the railway line and the River Sence.

It is also where I spent a lot of my childhood. Good to see the concrete tunnels, big slide and the dried-up-paddling-pool/skate board area (I never was quite sure what this was) are still there. The nutcracker, sadly, has been replaced by a basketball court.

The nutcracker was a type of multi-person swing with a person standing at both ends. They made it swing while everyone else was sitting in the middle. The idea was to see if you could swing it high enough so that the passengers hit their heads on the crossbar.
