A geocache hidden in a tricky way is waiting for you in the castle park of this lovely village, in a further part of the garden. Its dimensions are: 9x6 cm cylinder, suitable for smaller gifts.
The cache: In my opinion the access of the cache is complicated, so I would not specify it here, but in the next part you will find some instructions. The cache can be found only a few hundred meters from the parking places. Of course the streamlet is curvy and there is only one bridge! The cache can be seen from the walkway. Please be careful! Additional help for the search: You should get to the back part of the park to the cache. a., take the bridge of public country road near the parking places to cross over the streamlet b., if you want to feast your eyes on the streamlet too, take the route on the „wrong side” and after a short walk you will find a bridge… but pay attention, this may take at least 10 minutes and probably you get to the playing-field of the village too.:) Story and flora of the garden The English park I invite you with this cache to was designed by Petri Bernhardt, and it was realized under his personal supervision beginning of past century. The area bigger than 17 yokes is splitted by esplanades to the four winds. The total length of these is abt. 2,5 kmts. The garden part near the castle is more cultured than the area over the bridge, especially the northern part, which has turned to a crowded wood by now. There is a big greensward directly behind the castle. The 25 m high pine-tree of the park with perimeter 380 cm, diameter 120 cm is standing in the northern end of this. There is a playground too in the eastern end of the meadowy area, a hummock is rising next to it, encircled by a streamlet. A Kentaur-sculpture is standing on the island, which is simply called devil-statue by the local people, representing a ravisher, riding over his rival. It was ordered by Khuen-Héderváry Károly in the second half of 1800s, the sculptor is unknown. The 31 m high lindentrees around the statue restored lately deserve special attention among the trees of the islands, but the highest tree of the park, a 38-m silver poplar can also be found here. There is a dancing place a bit south-eastward from the island, surrounded by benches. Next to it there are among others liriodendron and gingko parading. The maple-trees and white oaks in the eastern part of the park are especially beautiful. The most admiring maple can be found in front of the hexagonal tower. There are some patulous giant planes on the west side of the castle. In the north-west corner of the park, beyond the streamlet an exotic of natural history can be made a wonder of: two ash-trees standing 180 cm from each other with slightly climbing side-branches had perfectly grown together in the height of 7 mts forming a letter H. Due to its shape the village people call it Hédervár-tree. The castle nowadays: The restored renaissance chateaux is one of the most compelling castle hotels in Hungary bringing up historic feelings. The castle hotel of Hédervár was furnished with period furniture, old Persian carpets. It has no peer owing to its Hunting-hall, saloon with walls covered with mural paintings in baroque style, and the private chapel of Héderváry family. It is either the renaissance or baroque architectural memories or a beautiful Zsolnay cockle-stove amazing the visitors. Those, wouldn’t like to relax but come here to have business meetings can choose among the oldest conference rooms of the country. A Hunting-hall with Empire-stove and chandelier, a renaissance library or several hundred-year-old arched vine-cellars can be used for conference purposes. Should somebody feel like keeping by oneself with a delicate cigar, that is welcome in the cigar-room or the former weapon-room with its cherry-wood flooring. A cuisine of the castle is also worthy of note. In the elegant restaurant „At the count’s” the guests can choose from the wide variety of lickerish viants. It isn’t in close contact with the story of the castle, but an interesting fact, that the sole Colorado-beetle statue of the country, but very likely that of whole Europe can be found in Hédervár. A brief story: It was the venture of two young artists Búzás Mihály and Szolnoki József in 1997 to shoot a film about the Colorado-beetle to the Mediawave Festival of Győr, which had been present in Hungary for 50 years by then. The first specimen was found on the 19th July 1947 exactly here in Hédervár. The Leptinotarsa decemlineata i.e. bronze statue of Colorado-beetle was made by three young sculptors Maráczy Manuela, Zsédely Teréz and Csáki László. It was placed on a red marble pedestal on the square opposite the parish hall, and inaugurated with high festival. For further information regarding to places of interests have a look at the official website of the village. Story of the cache: The cache was adopted by me end February 2012, so its situation seems to have changed for the better after many set-backs. At the present moment there is an active park-planning going on near the objective point as well. In the meantime positions of some more possible caches have been located by measuring. The co-ordinates are measured and precised by Garmin GPSMAP 60 CSx, on basis of average values of a measuring period of 45 minutes, in a season without frondage. Following to renewal of photo-, description- and cache it is already me expecting the cachers. Perusing and interpretation of information described and those of the website assist the successful finds.
