On April 3rd, 2012, just 5 days before Easter Sunday, a series of at least 11 tornadoes touched down all over the Dallas Metroplex. Hardest hit were Lancaster, Arlington, and Forney. Fortunately there were no fatalities, but quite a few homes were destroyed and automobiles were flung far from their points of departure.
This short series of caches has been placed in clear view of where the tornado touched down in Forney and destroyed many homes along the northwest edge of the Diamond Creek housing development, as well as Crosby Elementary School which is located in this development. At the time of cache placement, the damage can clearly be seen. The cleanup and reconstruction efforts of those who have been displaced can clearly be seen as well, with plentiful assistance from many volunteers in the community, providing a happy counterpoint to this terrible devastation. While helping cleanup the area, I met a woman who parked her car in front of the elementary school and went in for shelter. After the storm had passed, her car was totally gone. She later located and identified her car from a television piece she saw on the news. There were many other incredible stories, some bizarre and some very touching, that these people shared while we were cleaning up the debris and personal effects that had been scattered about in the adjacent fields.
This cache will take you to a nice vantage point to see the wreckage without getting in the way of the cleanup and restoration efforts. You are looking for a small round container with a small FTF prize.
