Geocache Description:

The Intercolonial Railway Station in Sussex played a big role in the community growing and thriving in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The station was built in 1913-1914. The railway line enabled farmers to send their milk to the bigger market in St. John. Students were able to travel daily to attend college in St. John. Thousands of soldiers from Camp Sussex left from this station to their postings in Canada and overseas, particularly during the two world wars. Due to this connection, the museum for the 8th Canadian Hussars is housed here. The Intercolonial Railway Station is part of a National Historic Event as it is a station on the first railway connecting Central Canada and the Maritimes in 1876.
This building is also a good example of the Craftsman railway stations that were being built across Canada during the early 20th century. Distinguishing characteristics of this style include the multiple hipped roofs supported by over-sized brackets.
The cache is located on Broad St. near the train station. Please note that Broad St. is two-laned but a one-way street (keep to the outside lane). The tracks that run behind the station are still used today by CNR but no longer stop at the station. During the summer months, part of the station is used for visitor information and you can purchase an ice cream cone from Sully's Ice Cream Parlour.
