fanasfreaks: The current system has become a bit to oppressive for me. So it is time to change my game to just a finder.

Geocache Description:

panning for gold Pictures, Images and Photos

This is a paddling watercraft cache (no gas powered engines allowed). Please use the boat launch given in the additional waypoints below. You MUST approach this one from the creek. If you approach from any other direction you will have to cross private property which permission is not given. SO, USE A BOAT!!!

I decided to do a little paddling up the creek to gain a little serenity. Little did I realize, I was paddling back to another time. Within a few minutes of paddling from the given boat launch, the sounds of the city disappeared. They were replaced by the songs of birds and the scurrying of squirrels. As I paddled along, the land on either side appeared untouched by human hands.

Then, out of nowhere, I caught a glimpse of something a little out of place. Just past the spot was a perfect place to land the kayak to investigate. Sure enough there was a small path that led back to the 1800's.

Dahlonega and the surrounding area were the site of the U.S.'s first major gold rush. Some reminders of that time still exist, but are hidden away amongst the hills. This is one of those spots.

This cache is about the location - not the hide. Unfortunately the area is not conducive to anything but a micro cache. I did not want a cacher made trail leading from the point of interest. So this log only matchstick container is just off the trail that is already in existence.

Reception in the area is spotty. You will be looking for an old gold mine on the right side of the creek when you are paddling upstream. It is fairly large and filled with water. You can see the top of it while paddling. The mine is only about 25 feet from the creek bank. Just know that you should be very close to the first tree on the left side of the trail when your back is to the creek. When the cache was placed there was an old Sprite can there. The hint is a total spoiler. Make sure to take it with you. The cache is hidden fairly aggressively due to being next to an existing trail. Please re-hide in the same spot, well camoed. Have Fun!!!

Congrats Team DanJer for a well earned FTF!!!
