Geocache Description:

A series of caches, visiting old mine works around Gwydyr Forest. Suitable footwear and clothing for time of year are required and the essential Camera and picnic.

The walk to the caches is along well defined forest footpaths, old mines that have been capped and made safe.
There is NO need to go off the path into areas that are fenced off or look unsafe.
Mining has been going on in the area for hundreds if not thousands of years and there is alot of evidence if you care to look.

The aims of this series is to find the caches, record and keep additional information found in caches.

The cache walk follows PART OF the Mine trail that is marked RED with crossed pick and hammer.
Its approx. 3.6 Km and about 1 and a half hours.

Please be aware that part of the footpath is shared with cycles and also you cross a forestry road.

Parc Coedwig / Parc Mine
Was the last mine in the area to close surviving until 1963, 20th century investment and new technology improved it’s efficiency and it was relatively productive during the 1950s until American lead imports caused ore prices to fall. When work ended in 1958, several local miners emigrated to work in American mines. In 1962-63 the complex was reopened for research experiment into automated milling techniques.
