Geocache Description:

This is the first of a series of four caches, which take you to the summit of Legogote. It is recommended that they are done in ascending order. It is best to park just outside the Petra College gate in the designated parking area.

From here is should be about a two and a half hour climb to the summit, finding all four caches along the way as well as visiting the cave with the San rock art. The return trip is a lot quicker.

Depending on the time of year and the volume of traffic on this route, the footpath should be easy to follow. It runs along the fence up to the top gate, and then continues through the grass, into indigenous bush and then onto the open rock near the top. Google Earth images show the path quite clearly. Treat the electric fence as live at all times.

Due to the difficulty of the terrain, as well as its remoteness, it is best never to climb alone, at night or in wet weather. Watch out for spiders, snakes and thorns along the route. Make sure you carry enough liquids so you do not get dehydrated. Remember also to wear sunscreen and a hat. It is essential to wear non-slip, closed shoes, especially for the last cache.
