Geocache Description:

'Radio Hill' has an important, but almost forgotton role in the history of broadcasting in Canberra.

In late 1931, Jack Ryan started Canberra's first radio station (2CA) from a small room at the back of his Kingston electrical repair shop. By 1933 they had increased the power of the station and the shop was no longer a suitable location. A site was chosen on a low hill close to the Queanbeyan - Canberra road. This became known as 'Radio Hill'.

The small building here housed the 'studio' and transmitter until the late 30's when the studio moved to Mort St in Braddon, and the transmitter to Gungahlin (SW side of Barton Highway).

The start coordinates are at the slab of the building. Only a small section is visible (see second article below for a more complete view). A = Number of anchor bolts protruding from the visible slab

WP2 is at the footings for one of the former aerial support towers. Part of the support post is still visible. B = Number of slots in the concrete footing surrounding the post.

Calculate GZ as:

S35 20.(B-1)(A*2)(A+B+1), E149 10.(A+1)(B*2+1)(A*2+1)

Please cover as found and be gentle with the hide so as to not destroy it
