Victoria Pier (renamed South Pier in 1930) was opened with a choir, two brass bands and an orchestra on Good Friday, 1893 and at 149 m (488 ft 10 in) long, it is the shortest of the three Blackpool piers.
Victoria Pier was considered to be more "upmarket" than North and Central piers, and at first provided little entertainment. Two fires in six years changed the pier dramatically. First in 1958, followed by a further fire in 1964 completely destroying the Grand Pavilion.
The Regal Theatre, at the entrance of the pier, was converted into the Beachcomber Amusement Arcade and the replacement Pavilion Theatre at the pier head was eventually demolished and replaced by a white knuckle ride, childrens rides, arcades and an entertainment bar.
