Geocache Description:

This is a small series for a park that has nearly everything! This series is only available during park hours. No pass or entrance fee required.Sheldon Lake State Park Website

Only 15 miles from downtown Houston, this 3,200 acre "green and blue island' of a state park is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of life in Houston. Open for day use, the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) features a fish hatchery "gone wild", a mile of wheelchair-accessible trails, and LEED-certified facilities demonstrating green architecture and alternative energy at work. Free catch-and-release fishing is permitted on weekends at two stocked ponds. Beware of small gators trying to grab your bait or catch though!

As long as we have known about and visited this park, this locale has had a friendly gator or two in residence. Oftentimes when dillyz makes the "baby gator call" the small gator we call "Fred" comes to visit. Give it a try -- you're safely above the water here!

SLSP IS AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE YOU WILL SEE WILDLIFE - ALLIGATORS, SNAKES, AND OTHER TEXAS SPECIES. Come prepared for the experience but remember not to feed, attempt to capture, or otherwise annoy the animals.

Congrats to Kirbydox for FTF!
