[ITA]Straordinario territorio tra terra ferma e il mare, la laguna di Marano con quella di Grado formano un unico comprensorio lagunare di circa sedicimila ettari, il più settentrionale dell'intero Mediterraneo.
Un meraviglioso bacino di acqua salmastra situato tra la pianura friulana ed il mare Adriatico e tra due grandi fiume della regione, Tagliamento ed Isonzo. Zona umida tra le più rilevanti della nostra penisola ci rimane quale testimonianza relitta dell'antica sequenza di bacini deltizio-lacustri che si estendevano dal Carso a Ravenna prima delle trasformazioni operate dall'uomo.
L'origine della laguna risale a circa 5000-6000 anni fa in seguito ai movimenti relativi all'innalzamento del livello del marino e al corrispondente abbassamento delle pianure proprio del periodo postglaciale.
Il fenomeno delle maree seguono l'andamento marino dell'alto Adriatico: per sei ore circa la marea sale, l'acqua entra in laguna attraverso le bocche di porto, per altre sei ora la marea cala, l'acqua esce sempre attraverso le bocche di porto.
Le escursioni sono le più alte del Mediterraneo, con delle oscillazioni comprese fra i valori medi di 70 centimetri e massimi di oltre un metro.
Questo continuo pulsare ha creato un complesso sistemi di canali, che partendo dalle bocche di porto verso l'interno della laguna, sempre più si dirada in modo capillare.
Distinguiamo così i canali principali segnalati dalle briccole, vie lagunari con una profondità tra i 2 e i 5 metri dove è possibile la navigazione, dai ghebli e rìi, canali secondari poco profondi di solito non segnalati dove è difficile la navigazione se non con le tipiche imbarcazioni lagunari a fondo piatto, batele.
