Geocache Description:

The Westray West cache was placed at the most western point of the island of Westray by the West SEA on Mr West SEA's birthday.

Although it is possible for the faint hearted to drive up to Noup Head Lighthouse to grab the cache this is only recommended for 4x4 vehicles and those who cannot manage the full Noup Head loop, which is a set walk (details of which can be found on www.walkorkney.com). Whilst we always stay at Bis Geos, which is close to the start of the walk, if you are driving over from another part of Westray I would recommend that you park at the Backarass car park at the waypoint provided.

The circular hike is approximately 6.4km in length and passes cliffs, geos and the Noup Head lighthouse. The first half of the walk is definitely more difficult than the second, being uphill, but when arriving at the lighthouse there are plenty of great places to have a picnic after you find the cache before heading along the track back to the car.

The cache has been placed with the kind permission of the RSPB and SNH as it is situated in a reserve within a SSSI. Please ensure that the cache site is left as you found it and that you stick to the path where possible anddo not disturb any nesting or breeding birds.

The cache is a former military decon container and is large enough to hold small items, geocoins, trackables, etc. We placed the cache on my birthday and loaded it with toys and swaps.
