This cache is hidden in this small Karoo town of Middelberg, as it’s a usual stop over on our way to the eastern cape from Gauteng. We just loved this little town, and thought it good to put a cache on the other side of the town form where the national roads run to force you to drive through the town and experience this little oasis first hand.
Middelburg is surrounded by mountains in the heart of the Great Karoo, Middelburg is unique, yet similar to the average Karoo town. The area is recognized for its herbal plant life that grows naturally in the fields, and is also one of the few, and best, places in the world where fossil life has been discovered as well as San Rock Art in caves from the first known human inhabitants, the San Bushmen.
Scenic beauty is the town's main asset, with Open Spaces, Karoo Sunsets, Star Gazing, Fresh Air and Snow-capped Mountains during the winter months.
Middelberg started of as a farm and the farm was given the name MIDDELBURG, for the farm lied in the middle of the surrounding towns (Graaf Reinett, Cradock, Colesburg and Steynsburg) The first plots were sold on 12 & 13 August 1852.
Middelburg is halfway between Johannesberg & Cape Town, as well as between Bloemfontein & Port Elizabeth. The R56 route serves as a gateway between the Western Cape && Kwazulu-Natal Provinces. It is the shortest route between these provinces.
We stay over on friend’s farm just outside of Middelberg to enjoy the superb Karoo lifestyle and atmosphere, and the cache is at the start of the gravel road leading to this farm, at a cattle grid in the road to prevent animals form wandering of the farm into town.
Note that the GPS accuracy on the day of hiding the cache was +-3m so remember to use the hint to find the cache. The cache is a see through container with a purple lid. FTF hnors goes to dupmarco
