This place has always been a landmark for me as well as countless others who live in this general area. It is a truly unique structure. PLEASE DO NOT DEFACE OR DAMAGE THE OBJECT! The cache can be obtained by reaching straight to it.
This has stood at a corner on Charleston's Savannah Highway since the 1950s. And others like it from 1920s.
Starting in the 1960s, a tradition of "riding it" began among high school students and cadets at The Citadel military college in Charleston. There is now a sign warning of arrest and prosecution to climb it or damage it, and they are not kidding. At one point there was even a electric fence on its rim. It also has survived vandals, hurricanes and zoning ordinances.
It received some damage after Hurricane Hugo swept through in 1989 (main item was stored in a safe place and stand was destroyed) and locals had a fit that it be ressurected if for nothing else for its landmark capabilities.
It turns red and green for Christmas, wears a bonnet for Easter and dons a top hat for St. Patrick's Day.
On side of a very busy highway, very high muggle activity, hint is a spoiler!
Congrats RacingKartDad51 for FTF!
