Geocache Description:

This Cache is the 12th in the BC Spirit Quest - a series of caches dedicated to the Pioneers of BC. Each cache is hidden NEAR BUT NEVER IN a cemetery of historical significance. Much can be learned from visiting and showing respect to our predecessors. Feel free to post information found or photos of interesting stones or other features in the cemetery.

THE CEMETERY:

Hazelwood is one of four city operated cemeteries in Abbotsford, British Columbia. It is large and well maintained.

THE CACHE:

A simple go to small cache near this carefully managed site. Cache is outside the cemetery and can be hunted 24/7. Don't worry, the resident muggles already know where the cache is.

INTERESTING TOMBSTONES/PERSONS:

An interesting, little known fact is that a section of Hazelwood Cemetery has been set aside for war veterans and their spouses only. This area includes 12 RAF airman who were killed while training at Abbotsford Airport (back when Abbotsford Airport was built as a wartime training airbase base far from the front). The 12 RAF graves are tended by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. These airmen are:

A. Allan P. Gunton G. Morris J. Sinclair R. Avery R. Johnson A. Suggate P. Cotter T. Batley I. Bennett J. Thomas H. Curtis

The RAF airmen are also memorialized, along with local war dead, on a cairn in Jubilee Park, downtown Abbotsford.

THE SERIES:

To prevent confusion, please do not use the "BC Spirit Quest", name without our specific consent. Never hide a cache in a cemetery without specific permission. Credit for the idea to SixDogTeam, Half-Canadian and the other Spirit series hiders. Thank-you and enjoy the history.
