Norfolk's Nightmare
The US Bank Tragedy
At around 9:00 am on September 26, 2002, three gunmen entered the US bank branch on the northeast corner of 13th St. & Pasewalk Ave. In less than 40 seconds, the gunmen senselessly ended the lives of 5 innocent people. It was the nation's deadliest bank robbery in at least a decade, and, to this day, the deadliest bank robbery in Nebraska history. The bank branch never reopened. It was torn down, and a memorial park was built in it's place. The memorial is in the shape of a 5-point star, one point for each victim:
Evonne Tuttle, a bank customer from Stanton
Lola Elwood, a bank employee, from Norfolk
Jo Mausbach, a bank employee, from Humphrey
Lisa Bryant, a bank employee, from Norfolk
Samuel Sun, a bank employee, from Norfolk

2012 marks the 10th Anniversary of this tragedy.
"We will never forget."
