Geocache Description:

This is the sixth in a series of stops along the Tatham Gap road between Robbinsville and Andrews. This road was, for 500 Robbinsville area Cherokees, the beginning of the Trail of Tears.

We have numbered the stops from north to south, from Robbinsville to Andrews, since that is the way the road was then travelled. The series of caches can be approached from either direction.

This stop represents our return to present day civilization, having survived the trek up the Cheoah Valley to Tatham Gap at Joanna Bald, and down again to Valleytown. You have travelled 12 miles in perhaps less than 2 hours, but it probably took the Cherokees days to make the trip under great duress.

Small note: As required by the USFS for caches hidden in the Nantahala National Forest, the cache is prominently labeled as a geocache and the label includes the waypoint number and the owner's e-mail address.
