The CWS opened a margarine factory in Higher Irlam near Manchester.
In the 1950s the CWS was selling Gold Seal and Silver Seal brands of margarine.
Located adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal and to the west of the Irlam - Manchester railway embankment.
The works had its own internal railway system, with a saddle tank locomotive and a fireless locomotive.
This loco is on static display nearby, alongside the A57 road in Cadishead "Going Loco" cache GC1BG5P
The main A57 is a busy “Clearway” you can’t even stop on it !
So I would highly recommend going into Irlam and parking at N053 26.786 W002 24.737
LOG ETIQUETTE: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches.
As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide,
or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
