A cache along Hollingside Lane just past Hollingside House which is owned by Durham University and is used as a residence for Senior Staff.
This should be a quick and easy find.
Part of the Durham University South Circular Walk (DUSCW)
Some information on Hollingside House that you may find interesting:
Hollingside House is Grade II Listed and its entry is noted as:
Early, mid and later C19; Flemish bond brick garden front, coursed
squared sandstone rear; rear wing sandstone with brick and ashlar dressings;
Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys and rendered chimney at rear of wing.L-plan. Garden front 2 storeys, 3 bays, the outer bays canted. Central Frenchwindow and overlight; other windows sashes with glazing bars; flat stone lintels,
some with bracketed cornices, and projecting stone sills. Bracketed mouldedgutter. Low-pitched hipped roof has later central dormers. Garden wall attachedto right return; sandstone outer leaf, brick inner, with flat stone coping;segmental-headed doorway to lane.
From 1862 to 1874 this was the home of Reverend John Bacchus Dykes, hymn writer; precentor of Durham Cathedral and vicar of St. Oswald's church, Durham.
This cache joins together some others in the area which could be covered as a circular. A bit of planning will show there are plenty of caching oppourtuinies in the surrounding area - not all of them being standard boxes.
Remember to say Hello to the Vice Chancellor if you see him!
