El Auditorio Nacional de México fue valorado como el número uno en la lista de los mejores escenarios del mundo en el primer trimestre de 2007 para ofrecer espectáculos artísticos que publica la revista estadounidense Pollstar.2 En su balance trimestral, la publicación destacó que el Auditorio Nacional superó a grandes escenarios como el Fox Theatre, en Atlanta; elRadio City Music Hall, y el Madison Square Garden, ambos en Nueva York; el Universal Amphitheatre, en Los Angeles, y el Heineken Music Hall, en Ámsterdam, Holanda[cita requerida]. Es uno de los recintos más grandes que muestra esta ciudad.

Se construyó en 1952 por órdenes de Miguel Alemán Valdés originalmente como una sede para eventos ecuestres, pero fue concluido en 1953 por Adolfo Ruíz Cortinez con un cambio de uso hacia Auditorio Municipal. De ese edificio sólo se conservan el graderío del primer y segundo piso.
