This cache is placed at Fyne Court, Broomfield, on the Quantock Hills. Many thanks to the National trust as this cache has been placed with the permission and help of the Ranger. The name of the cache indicates what you are looking for, but beware as the challenge for this one is that this is a more popular muggle path!
We have enjoyed many days at Fyne Court, with friends and family, and you do not need to be a National Trust member to visit. There is plenty to do and we particularly enjoy the various woodland walks. Also check out the small visitor Centre that has lots of great ideas for activities. (see National Trust website: www.nationaltrust.org.uk). The landscaping at Fyne Court, including an arboretum, was laid out in 1780 by the Crosse family, although today much of the estate has returned to nature. Fyne Court now has a very natural woodland feel to it but as you explore you can see the remnants of the former landscape gardens such as the folly and the ponds. The main house burnt down in 1894 when Emma Morgan, a house servant, left a candle unattended after using it to warm her metal curling tongs. A kitchen maid and the gardener discovered the fire and tried in vain to put it out. Following this the gardener ran to Kingston St Mary (2 miles away) to send a message to the Fire Brigade in Taunton, but unfortunately the telegraph was not working, so he continued to Taunton. The Fire Brigade was eventually sent, the engine being pulled by four horses. It was said that the fire fighters had to get out of the engine at certain points and push the Fire Engine up the Quantocks, but by the time they arrived the fire had taken hold. Today all that remains of the original house is the library, music hall and coach house buildings. However, Fyne Court is still a special and beautiful place to visit throughout the changing seasons and we hope you enjoy this cache.
