Quernmore - Village Crossroads
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions

This cache is a keysafe container. It is NOT a drive by cache - the road can be busy at times and it is a busy junction. Please take extra care walking along the roadside, there is a grass verge. This cache is part of a 5 mile circular walk around the village of Quernmore. Please note the terrain rating, some areas are particularly steep, but with that comes wonderful views!
We recommend that after finding this cache, you head to Stoneycroft and follow the caches in this anti clockwise direction, as the footpaths are easier to follow this way. Quernmore (pronounced "kwor-mer") is about three miles east of Lancaster itself. It lies within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In 2001, the population was 532! In 1970 a Roman pottery kiln was unearthed near the Friends Meeting House nearby, and other kilns have been discovered in the local vicinity. The central point of Quernmore is the post office at the foot of Quernmore Brow, alongside a cluster of houses. It was established in 1883 next door to the Dog and Partridge inn, which first opened its doors in 1826, but the licence was surrendered at the turn of the century so that the youth of the village would not be corrupted! It was renamed the Temperance Hotel, and became a cafe combined with the post office and general store. It served the community well until the mid 198os when the 'Temp' as it was known locally was sold. It is now a private home and the post office was closed in 2008. Please re hide the cache carefully.
