Geocache Description:

A disguised container, a micro, you will need something to write on the log book with.

This cache is part of a 5 mile circular walk around the parish of Quernmore. Please note the terrain rating, some areas are particularly steep, but with that comes wonderful views!

You do not need to leave the footpath to find this cache

This cache is placed along the footpath in between Rowton Brook Farm (recently renovated) and Rowton Brook Wood. In the wood there was a bank of Bluebells about to flower and if you look up when at GZ, you might spot some Rooks nests.

Much of the valley around Quernmore was open common land until the beginning of the 19th century, when it was all enclosed. Before then, there had been considerable industrial activity, including several coal mines, stone quarries and a hat factory. The quern stones, or grinding stones, produced from the quarries provided the origin of the name Quernmore.

Several quarries were on the slopes of Clougha Pike, which was the site of the beacon for Lancaster in Tudor times. Today the area is predominantly agricultural, providing grazing for sheep and cattle. Most of the farms in the valley are owner-farmed, passing down through the generations
