Geocache Description:

*The cache is NOT at the above coordinates*
These coordinates will take you to a plaque commemorating the Star of India, as a point of interest only.

Euterpe/Star of India

Did you know that there is a historical connection between San Diego and the Isle of Man (in the Irish Sea)? San Diego's beautiful ship, the Star of India, was originally named Euterpe (pronounced You-terp-ee) and was built in Ramsey, Isle of Man, in 1863. She is the world’s oldest sailing ship that still puts to sea. She has had mixed fortunes in her long history and has circumnavigated the earth 21 times, but now enjoys a quiet life as a floating museum in San Diego.

Now there is also an international Geocaching connection - this mystery cache in San Diego is linked with a "twin" mystery cache in the Isle of Man. The coordinates for the "EUTERPE - Isle of Man" mystery cache are here in San Diego, and the coordinates for this "EUTERPE - San Diego" mystery cache are in the Isle of Man!

You can either travel in person to Ramsey in the Isle of Man to obtain the coordinates for this cache, or obtain the help of fellow geocachers across the sea. They too may be seeking the coordinates for their mystery cache and may want your help. If you elect not to travel, an exchange of information is required.

To get started, a cacher in San Diego needs to copy the "EUTERPE - Isle of Man" coordinates from inside the "Stargazer" cache GC1B5YK. (If you have already logged a find for "Stargazer" in the past, you will need to revisit the cache to copy the numbers that are now there.)

Then post a note on the "EUTERPE - Isle of Man" cache page GC3F9HT that the coordinates are available to exchange for the coordinates for "EUTERPE - San Diego". The same process will be taking place with cachers from the Isle of Man posting to our cache page. Once a cacher has exchanged coordinates with his overseas partner (through Geocaching email), this cache can be located.

Once you have the coordinates from the Isle of Man, add 0.022 to the latitude (N) and 0.003 to the longitude (W) to get the coordinates for the Final Location.

Please do NOT post the coordinates in any cache log or post a photo of them - this will spoil the fun. Also, please do NOT reveal any information or post any pictures showing the area around this cache as it would defeat the purpose of doing a "hands across the sea" exchange to find this cache.
