Geocache Description:

Mangamuka Wander

On our way back from up north we stayed the night on the north side of the hill and in the morning the cache at the roadside summit was the first one we found for the day, we spotted the walking track leading into the bush and just had to take a 400ml Sistema for a 500 metre walk, alas the poor thing never made it back out, banished for eternity under a fern tree mound.

Dont get me wrong, it is a lovely spot, one well worth the 10-20 minute wander in and out, the cache is placed not too far into the trail, as I mentioned above, it is only a kilometre all up, just enough to increase the heart rate and get you ready for all those drive by caches on your way home!!

Do be mindful of where you step at the beginning of the trail, those bleedin' freedom camper's again...... once past the nasty stuff its just fresh mud and tree rooted trails to contend with, bliss.......

Please read the sign at the beginning of the trail about Kauri Die-back and stick to the track and clean your boots and gear before going into any other Forests, to get the cache there is no need to leave the track, the GPS could be a bit patchy under the tree cover but just keep an eye out for a small tree fern on a mound, the cache is under the mound in a little "cave" like hollow.
