A piece of history I didn't know about before placing this cache.
My Grandparents used to live around the corner from here in the 1970s after they moved off their Soldier Settler block.
The old tennis courts here were the original thoughts for placing a cache, but the plaque I found at the site got me thinking of something entirely different. The cache is named after the nearby bridge, but that's all.
I never knew that this site was the location of the original office of the South Australia Company, built in 1836. They bought the land previously settled by "Governor" Henry Wallen, at typical government rates. Wallen is presumed to have jumped ship or escaped from Van Diemen's Land (or something similar) possibly 15 years before the arrival of the official settlers, and was farming the land with his several "wives" when the SA Company arrived. As often seems the case, he died penniless, many years later.
Visit matmob's Gov Wallen (GC43B12) to see where he is buried. If you've just been there, you will know this story already, and I've lost the Boett.
Cache is a black 1 litre pot with a few bits and pieces in it.
